BARRY ALLEN IS BACK...!?

 I don't believe it yet.
 It's about time!
I'm okay with it, as long as they don't kill Wally.
I'm okay with it, as long as they kill Wally.
 I'm agin' it.
Worst idea in Western Civilization, I'll never read another word in English again, blah blah blah...

NATE RECOMMENDS...
May 07, 2008 1:49 PM

Our customer Nate S. recommends....

Avengers Initiative.

Nate's a longtime Spider-Man fan, and that's one of the reason he likes Avengers Initiative.  "It's about young people who find themselves with 'great power' learning how to use that power for good, and how it affect their lives."

Plus, he adds, it's got a strong dose of "JSA" in it, because older, established heroes are trying to mentor the young ones.  "If either JSA or Spider-Man appeals to you, you're missing out if you don't get Avengers Initiative."

TJ G. RECOMMENDS
April 13, 2008 10:20 AM

Our latest customer recommendation is from TJ G., a comparative newcomer to comic books, but an avid reader of them.  TJ loves learning more about the history of comic book characters, which is part of the reason his recommendation is Booster Gold.

Booster Gold is all about time travel within the DC Universe, which provides the opportunity for visiting any time or place ... or previous DC story!  This allows readers like TJ to experience first-hand characters and storylines from long before they began reading comics.

TJ also appreciates the quality of the writing, which he considers and ideal blend of the humorous and the dramatic.  "Booster Gold is the perfect character for this kind of series because he can be just as funny or as serious as you need him to be without going out of character."

As a sign of just how serious Booster Gold can be, Booster currently taking on the trio of villains last seen in Justice League's "Lightning Saga": Despero, Per Degaton, and Ultrahumanite.  Doesn't get oo much more serious than that!

So now's a good time to follow TJ's recommendation and give Booster Gold a try.

GABE P. RECOMMENDS...
April 03, 2008 07:38 AM

Customer Gabe P. recommends "Walking Dead", from Image Comics.

"I was going to recommend Blue Beetle," he commented, "But everyone recommends Blue Beetle!"

Walking Dead is, no surprise, a zombie story.  But in a world of the shambling corpses of other zombie stories, why does Gabe recommend this one?

"The zombies aren't the villains," Gabe says.  "The humans are.  The zombies are just a fact of life.."

Walking Dead features a large, well-developed ensemble cast with complex interrelationships.  But the only thing they all have in common, Gabe notes, is "No one is safe.  This is not one of those stories where you know which characters are expendable and which are not.  You never know who might be the next to fall, and that keeps the cast, and the book, continually fresh.  Unlike the zombies."

ANTOINE RECOMMENDS...
March 20, 2008 08:45 AM

We thought you might like to know what other Big Monkey customers are reading, and why.

Today, we feature a recommendation from Antoine B.:  Infinity, Inc.

The original Infinity Inc. was a group of young heroes with ties to the Justice Society.  The new Infinity Inc. consists of young people who received superpowers as a result of Lex Luthor's Everyman Project in the series 52.

This group need the leadership of an older and wiser hero: Dr. John Irons, a.k.a. STEEL, from the Superman Family.  It's been a long time since Steel got to shine on his own, without being overshadowed by some Justice Leaguer in the same panel, and now Infinity Inc.  showcases him, as one of DC's premiere "self-made" heroes.  It's also good to see him in a leadership role.

And the group has some interesting powers and personalities:
"Kid Empty" the psychic vampire; Gerome McKenna the duplicate man, Storn the transgendering powerhouse, and Natasha the girl of mist!

Check out Infinity Inc.; Antoine recommends it!

RARE HEROCLIX FOUND AT BIG MONKEY!
March 02, 2008 6:18 PM

A special thanks to Tom Price, who hosted a very successful start to the Crisis Heroclix tournament at Big Monkey DC last Saturday!  We were happy to have 10 players plus 1 new player learning the game!

Congratulations are in order to our own Ben Hatton, who had the luck to pull an EXTREMELY rare Kingdom Come Superman, worth an estimated $200!

Thanks also to special guest Bill of Critical Hit magazine, who had these kind words to say on the Wizkids forum about the event:

(Venue Attended: Big Monkey Comics in Washington, DC)
Overall Experience: 5/5 Great Time and Great Day

So today I had a few decisions to make as my wife and daughter went away for the weekend and it was a weekend of sealed HeroClix venues. Well my choices were in equal distance just different direction (one being Dream Wizards in Rockville, MD and the other being Big Monkey Comics in DC). Well I let my daughter decide for me and said, “Catti should I go to Dream Wizards and visit my friend Todd to play figures or should I go to Big Monkey Comics to visit Tom?” Immediate response was a loud and happy GO TO THE MONKEY STORE!! And “Can I go?!?!” Sadly she could not go as she was 5 hours away at the time and I was getting ready to go. Though decision made I went to Big Monkey Comics excited and happy to try a new venue and play some new people.

After a little traffic jam near the beltway I made good time and got to the store and even found a parking spot nearby which made me happy. I grabbed my box of tokens, dice, etc.. and went into the store with 15 minutes to spare. To my surprise the venue was fairly busy with many clixers waiting their turn to buy boosters. I said hi to Tom (tom730 here, Sabartract on WizKids) and hi to the store owner Skip who is a great guy .I bought my boosters (Red Hood boosters-Have to go with the evil Robin) and sat patiently in the corner. Then it was time to open my boosters.

General pull: (Tempest, Kid Flash, Speedy, Liberty Belle, Red Hood, Aqualad, Nightwing, Shimmer, Klarion, Harbringer, Monster Society of Evil and BFC High Gravity). I am very happy with my pulls and just now have to construct. Again I must think back to my daughter and what would she want daddy to play. Immediately I know Teen Titans is going to be the best choice, and in my head I hear her singing off key to the Titans theme song. (played Kid Flash, Speedy, Liberty Belle, Nightwing, Aqualad).

I played against some great people and had a great time. I think my favorite thing was being able to play against some people I have literally NEVER played against before. It is so nice to meet new and enthusiastic players at a new place. I ended up going 3-0 and walking away with the win and a Giant Stride (Go Teen Titans!)

Skip has a great venue that I enjoy visiting. It is very accessible on the weekends and I have my choice of driving or taking the metro in. He is one of the few storeowners I know that is enthusiastic about the game and likes to talk about the game as well. Tom always runs a great event and I feel bad he didn’t get to play today.

Overall a great experience clixing today and a nice fun team played with.
